Bathroom project is finished and only took 3 times longer than expected.( pics got out of order) by kennybobin DIY

Maybe lumber companies are conspiring to force you into using more wood than necessary. Or, someone decided that there must be a good reason to study loads and shit.

That's cool and all, but it looks like that's a load bearing wall and should require a load bearing header board. It could make that window difficult to open/close over time.

Why no header for your window? It seems like a load bearing wall. Flat 2x4s doubled up in that orientation are not very effective.

I would try wiping/spraying the pipe with phosphoric acid, and follow by priming and painting.

TIL that New Rome, Ohio once had 14 cops for 60 residents and became one large speed trap, netting $400,000 a year in fines before the state dissolved the town. by Flaxmoorein todayilearned

Sorry, but it's 60mph before and after the Linndale enforcement area, not 65mph. Otherwise, you are correct.

Nice temporary fix. But that doesn't cut it for me. I'm moving the fuck out of Cleveland ASAP! I'd much rather move somewhere where they did not put a bunch of manhole covers all over the middle of the road thus preventing hot pavement recycling methods to be utilized.

I often see that the concrete sub layer looks to be in decent shape, but the asphalt layers are destroyed. In Cleveland, replacing the asphalt takes much more time than it should due to manhole covers in the road.

It might be time to consider rubberized concrete/asphalt provided that it stands the test of time and old man winter. See this.

First time homebuy.... my plan.... by jlindsay87in RealEstate

[–]urbancamp 2 points3 points ago

Purchase a cheaper property that will eventually become a rental. Set it up with improvements that will make for easy maintenance and be attractive to tenants. Find a way that your property and price of rent is more attractive than the competition and that you are actually netting a profit.

Incredible high school teacher goes far beyond what is required of her. Giving less fortunate students free breakfast and lunch, clothes, and far more. I think she deserves more recognition and support. What do you say, Reddit? by blackmajic13in AskReddit

That makes sense. It's still concerning especially with cases like THIS. I wonder if "retroactive" is misused in that context as well?

Don't pump the brakes if your car is equipped with ABS. ABS does the pumping for you, better than you can. If no ABS, pump away.

I'm on the west side of Cleveland (Kamm's Corner). I have a engine hoist and a truck. You are welcome to borrow it. Some gas money would get you the hoist.

I have white carpet and two dogs. I vacuum as often as possible and clean the carpets about every four months. I just rent a machine from a tool rental store like sunbelt rentals. It's a hot water extractor and is very powerful. Not only does it provide very hot water, but it extracts the water better than any other machine I've tried (Rug Doctors and Hoovers).

Dear DIY: What brand of tools should I buy? by ericandertonin DIY

I've had/have Ridgid, Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita, Hitachi, and Firestorm tool brands. I'm a fan of all except the Firestorm. My tools get used and abused on a daily basis and are all going strong. The Milwaukee drill and driver combo (M type lithium battery) is a lifesaver. I bought extra batteries for a total of 4, and I don't see them dying anytime soon.

The Bosch tools are corded (sawzall and Bulldog hammer drill) and work very well. I like my Makita 10" mitre saw as well. Look for nice blades. My Ridgid framing nailer is a beast with a "forever" guarantee. I had a set of Hitachi lithium ion tools (drill, driver, saw) but they were stolen. It was much better than the firestorm crap, but I feel that the Milwaukee stuff is better built.

I've had success with Bosch drill bits. The tapcon bits were problematic for me as well.
