Have you ever cheated on your SO? If so... why? by edechin AskReddit

Monogamy isn't "dying". People always cheated. It's just that today, we're obsessed with the dalliances of other people.

What is something you've always wanted to do, but feel discouraged because of your gender? by cptphiferin AskReddit

Okay, here's the thing:

I'm out of the brony closet. Most of the people I know are at least passingly aware of the fact that I watch the show. It's a little hard when I spend my weekends wearing pony shirts.

Nobody really cares.

What is one statement that you stand by but might get unpleasant reaction from others? by no_front_teethin AskReddit

Right now, for Americans, drug legalization is not the biggest issue of our time.

Yes, it's the privilege of not being Mexico and not having a long history of corruption coming to bite us in the ass.

But while it isn't the biggest issue of our time, and it never will be, it is not a trivial issue.

People of Reddit who feel like you belong to an attacked minority: Do you feel like SRS defends you in any meaningful way? by I-am-fifty-ft-tallin AskReddit

[–]thephotoman 0 points1 point ago

Not letting them oppress you is simple: exercise your rights, even as they attempt to stop you. Push through the beatings. Unfortunately, so many people skip this step and instead want to abuse their abusers. This does not lead to freedom.

If you want to know what happens with militants, read the story of Che Guevara. He was sympathetic around The Motorcycle Diaries. Unfortunately, when he becomes a revolutionary, he becomes a complete monster to people that he even perceives as disagreeing with him--even over trivial things!

What trivial act would you like to ban or make illegal? Personally, I would like to outlaw public speakers who start off by saying, "I can't hear you!" or "Let's try that again!" by danger_mcboomin AskReddit

Allow me to properly re-write /u/furnatic's comment:

Anyone who uses internet lingo, e.g.: Lol, or OMG, in normal, not on the computer conversation. As soon as I hear that, I have to hold back the urge to punch them in their noise-hole.

He meant e.g., confused it for i.e., fucked up the capitalization, and did not punctuate clearly.

My parents live in theirs.

These are two separate places.

At my own place, I leave it as I used it.

Open Marriages - Have you or anyone you know been in an "open relationship?" How did that work out? by LeoHunterin AskReddit

[–]thephotoman 0 points1 point ago

No, "open relationships" mean that she can hook up with that other guy, and you'll still be cool with that.

At least, that's what it means from a functional perspective.

Open Marriages - Have you or anyone you know been in an "open relationship?" How did that work out? by LeoHunterin AskReddit

[–]thephotoman 0 points1 point ago

You know, you're probably going to be ripped to shreds when some poly person comes in here and sees this.

However, I used to know a large number of people in the swinger's community. Every one of them had some severe issues that resulted in their relationships being some of the most messed up and abusive things I've ever seen. Some were just, as you said, re-enacting the patterns of abuse they saw in childhood because that's what they thought a relationship meant. Others were such slaves to their own bodies that they could not control their own desires and jealousy.

A number of these people are either narcissists or codependents. One of the worst poly people I've known was a guy that PUAs would call a natural. He had developed an abusive relationship with sex itself, and he did not care one bit about the people he hurt in the search for his fix. He would spend money on porn and sex toys even with rent due and an empty refrigerator.

But you're right: I've never heard of one of those poly/swinger threads where the couple had been in the scene for more than 5 years and remained together. Polyamory isn't about love. It's about lust. And when the lust is gone from the relationship, someone gets kicked to the curb.

The original quote was that they were having some guy from the office doing Wheatley.

We may have misunderstood what they meant, though.

Upbeat Orthodox Music?? by randomletterusernamein Catacombs

The Paschal stuff is actually quite upbeat.

And if you hurry, you might yet get to hear it. You have until Wednesday night. Of course, if your local parish isn't doing a service until Wednesday vespers (the beginning of Ascension), you're kind of out of luck until May 5 next year.

What schools that deserve to be in one of the Big-6 conferences but are often overlooked ? by karatechop250in CFB

[–]thephotoman 0 points1 point ago

If we had taken UTSA and Old Dominion under the old arrangement, simply expanding, I could have understood it. New schools need homes, too, and neither of them posed major travel problems for CUSA teams.

But you're absolutely right: there's been a talent drain on CUSA, and it's left two of the best teams in the conference behind for reasons nobody can adequately explain.

What might r/Christianity look like if it were the size of r/atheism (or other default sub)? by thenorthwinddothblowin Christianity

[–]thephotoman 3 points4 points ago

A lot of things boil down to how the moderators would handle things.

If there were consistent and active moderation, neophytes would either become accustomed to that or they would find themselves unwelcome very quickly. Not every large subreddit takes /r/atheism's particular tactic towards moderation (which is to say a minimalist approach that has not been effective with the constant stream of new users that Reddit gets now).

Would the sub be flooded by the "Religious Right"? I don't know. That's a crowd that doesn't really interact well with the Internet. They tend to be older and more Facebook and email bound today.
