What do you think about Christian Universalism and, more generally, Unitarian Universalism? by yooshiin Christianity

[–]shipshipship -1 points0 points ago

Cancer littered with good intentions is still cancer. Misdiagnosed cancer is still cancer.

(I say cancer too much. Cancer.)

Subsequent works is a result of salvation. You are a changed person, and as a changed person you will act differently. You are still a sinner, but you are a new person and people will notice.

I think the question of why God doesn't save everyone, although interesting, is the wrong question. To me, it is a bigger question why he decided to save anyone at all. Everyone deserves hell for their sins against a God infinitely worthy of their obedience. I know this sounds terrible to many, but it is what it is. It is how I clearly understand scripture, and I cannot compromise on it unless someone can show me, in scripture, why I'm wrong.

I think it is a cancer because it perverts the salvation message. Anything that perverts the salvation message is a cancer. Christ himself preached that belief in him and repentance will save you - end of topic. After that comes judgement; if you go out of this life without Christ as Lord, you're done. Paul later stresses the importance of getting the gospel right, and says that people who preach a different message are cursed.

In the end, it leads people astray. This is a tragedy no matter the religion or belief system, but this particular doctrine does it all in the name of Jesus.

And sometimes it is the truth and not just slander.

Yes. :) But I still meant what I said, and especially the last sentence.

That would be a most unpleasant experience, yes.

I honestly mean that it is the universalists who has to make the case. They go against the traditional and orthodox understanding of salvation, in addition to the plain language of the scriptures when it talks about salvation. They bring a cancer into the church of God, and it is on them to justify why their cancer is good for the church.

Matthew 25 offers one clear description of what is going to happen.

Thank you for the admonition. I think bullshit is okay in certain settings though, and Paul used similar descriptive language. Perhaps it is over the top; I will be the first to admit that my language is a work in progress.

Oh, no - I'm not saying that people who merely interpret things differently than me are void of truth. There is a lot of room within Christianity for non-essential issues. The topic at hand, however, goes against essential Christian doctrines, and that is why I use those words.

Not angry. Just very sad that deceivers like you run loose and lead people astray.

I don't know why you are being downvoted so hard as "bunch of crap" is pretty much the traditional Christian position on the issue. Oh, wait - we're on /r/christianity now, so that explains it. The fact that a comment saying that "Christian universalism honors the Cross of Christ" is at the top right now speak bundles of how void of truth and deprave this place is becoming.

Is it unwise to marry the only girl you've ever been with? by Zaculain relationships

[–]shipshipship 2 points3 points ago

There are many people out there who would do anything to have what you two have. Either you love her or you don't. Many, many people have done this before you, and had happy and satisfying lives together. Why do you need anything to compare it to? Either you are happy, or you are not.

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Live Action is absolutely awesome. A few years ago they uncovered how Planned Parenthood covers up sexual abuse of minors, and more.

Didn't intend to twist your words, if I did. I agree that there are perhaps more effective ways of convincing people to not kill unborn human life, but won't go so far as being morally disgusted by people picketing abortion clinics when what they are in fact protesting is the carnage and total slaughterhouse that the abortion clinic is.

Abortions will happen regardless of its legality, yes. As will any other kind of murder, rape, and robbery.

Would you call it shitting all over a decision if someone decided to kill a 10 year old boy and people harshly criticized it, or are we perhaps operating with a double-standard here? There are two scenarios:

  1. It is human.
  2. It is not human.

You may feel that way, but Christians go to the scriptures for truth. Here is what they have to to say:

  • Your leave your parents and become united to your wife, and nothing in between: "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh." -Gen 2:24

  • Again, in the New Testament: they are to become on flesh (generally understood as the unity of marriage and sex): "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." -Eph 5:31

  • Sexual sin is against your own body, and it is set apart from all other sin. This is why the devil is working so hard to make people sin in this particular regard. "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body." -1Cor 6:18

  • Where sex is to take place: "But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband." -1Cor 7:2

  • You should marry if you cannot control yourself: "But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion." -1Cor 7:9

Today's university is often a combination of a whorehouse (I use whore about both genders here; no derogatory reference to women implied) and a keg party. That is just the hard and sad reality of it. Find a Christian community on campus, and be faithful to that community. Find other Christians who are stronger in the faith than you are, and make yourself accountable to them. Keep company with them, pray with them, and take a stand from day one who you will follow -- yourself or Jesus.

I am by no means a good Christian, I masturbate, watch porn, say swear words and look down on people, but I believe sex might be one of the ultimate sins I can commit other than like murder.

Are you living in sin, or are you repentant? If you live in sin and plan to continue down this path, you are by any biblical standard not a Christian. You need to get saved, and turn your life around today. I'm not saying this to be harsh; I'm saying this because it is biblical truth:

"What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?" -Romans 6:1-2

"No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him." -1John 3:6

It's not about being perfect. Let me offer an analogy:

A cat can fall into the mud without being any less cat. But because he is cat he will quickly rise from the mud and make himself clean. On the other hand, a pig will relish in the mud and love it, and not think about getting up and making himself clean because he is a pig. Are you a cat or a pig?

Here is his promise to us: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." -1John 1:9

Please keep the following verse in mind and test yourself:

"Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?" -2Cor 3:15

UPDATE: Girlfriend slapped me by Gotbitchslappedin relationships

[–]shipshipship 128 points129 points ago*

The fact that your nick is Gotbitchslapped, that you left your own cheating out of the title of the submission, that you say "this is where it gets bad" only after she slapped you, that you make this more about her slapping you once than you cheating on her and by that taking a dump on the entire relationship, and finally that you are unwilling to work with her after she was willing to work with your cheating ass -- now that says a thing or two about where your heart is at and what a big wuss you are. In short, get over it and get off your high horse.

UPDATE: Girlfriend slapped me by Gotbitchslappedin relationships

[–]shipshipship 3 points4 points ago*

Men, in general, can handle being slapped once by a girl. Especially after they have cheated and by that taken a dump on the entire relationship. Women, in general, pose no physical threat to men, and any man who isn't a total weakling will not be scared shitless or feel threatened when hit by your average girl. Especially after they have cheated and by that taken a dump on the entire relationship.

Here is what it all boils down to: if he was really as sorry about what he did as he claims he is, he wouldn't freak out over her slapping him once. He wouldn't. He wouldn't stay obsessed with this after she was willing to work with him after what he did. He would jump at the opportunity to fix the relationship, with or without the slap.

Was it okay for her to hit him? No, absolutely not! She shouldn't have done it. Is violence ever justified? No, not unless it's in self-defense. But I find it absolutely ridiculous that people make this more about her than him.
