You are selectively applying your skepticism.

There also was a tomb, they discovered it. So how would all this have been pulled off at the time, if it wasn't truly a miracle.

The book of mormon must be correct, because if it was written on gold plates, they would be so heavy that the only way that Joseph Smith could have lifted them would be with an angel's help.

Santa must have access to magic, because no other single individual could deliver all those presents within such a short time period.

Funny story. JP Morgan has outstanding loans to greece, so it seems they may have a reason to want greece to stay in the euro and pay back their loans....

Can I please get some examples of speciation or "subspeciation" occurring in animals in the wild within historic times? by wonderfuldogin evolution

[–]rmosler 2 points3 points ago

First you kind of have to define speciation. Generally speaking different species are those that have significant barriers to reproduction (reproductive isolation). This can be produced in fruit flies over as few as eight generations solely through modification of diet.

Both cichlids and the three spine stickleback are examples of dramatic evolutionary change in recent times as they have evolved from a salt water environment to live in fresh water or brackish water. African Cichlids have very visible reproductive barriers in that they mate based on color and swimming queues all of which is very recent as can be observed from the geological history of lake victoria and lake malawi.

The apple maggot is very recent, being related to the other species of rhagoletis. This species evolved in north america around the 1800s with the proliferation of apples from europe. The ancestors of this species lived in north america and following the proliferation of apples from europe chose them as a primary food source. It appears this species is undergoing sympatric speciation.

Caramel is produced by heating sugar and water. This produces the "poisonous" ingredient from the puff piece that was linked above. Therefore, your cake likely has the same "poison" if there is any portion that has been exposed to enough heat to caramelize sugar.

It's PVP fit, so I don't run anomalies. It is a very specialized fit, PVP fit doesn't work well for PVE. It works great.

Not really a debate, but a question about Satan in the Bible by leggomydrewin DebateAnAtheist

Who gave Satan the knowledge of good and evil? If anything, he would simply be a tool for that god to launder its responsibility for sin.

Is atheism the natural position? by unbound_primatein atheism

[–]rmosler 0 points1 point ago

I guess you are right. I did not understand what your premise was. I would agree with you that attempting to assign order to what we do not understand with models we do understand is a natural human process. We naturally strive for understanding but we have a poor grasp of logical thought.

Is atheism the natural position? by unbound_primatein atheism

[–]rmosler 0 points1 point ago

So then you do include fairies, gnomes, dwarves. Do you believe they are responsible for things that happen in the world? If these are your default position, how do you disprove them. The whole problem with your position is that you assign a default position to nonfalsifiable claims, therefore they will always be true regardless of evidence.

I find it funny how you separate gods from other mythologies. Why do you make that difference?

Is atheism the natural position? by unbound_primatein atheism

Your argument would be sufficient to posit that santa, fairies and the easter bunny would be default positions, do you agree that these are default as well?

Do you think it's time to give men a choice to abort their unborn child and/or avoid child support without reprecussions if the child is unwanted? by htrsgnhtin AskReddit

[–]rmosler 0 points1 point ago

Yes. Her body, her choice. I agree with that. Now tell me why you advocate the double standard?

Do you think it's time to give men a choice to abort their unborn child and/or avoid child support without reprecussions if the child is unwanted? by htrsgnhtin AskReddit

[–]rmosler 0 points1 point ago

Who said that the man was irresponsible? Maybe he used protection. But this is immaterial.

Does a woman who has taken no steps to prevent conception also lack the right to choose after the fact?

So men have to live up to their responsibilities, but women do not? Why in your mind is the child a responsibility for a man that he can not give up, but not also a responsibility for a woman that she can not give up? A woman has a right to choose, or perhaps expounding from your statement be "irresponsible".

I for one think that any woman has the absolute right over her own body and her own sexuality, and it is not my place to call her irresponsible or judge her!

Where does your idea that this right exists for a woman but not a man come from? Is it because she is physically carrying the fetus? Why do you advocate for a man's right over his sexual choices to end at ejaculation, and a woman's right to end at birth, or the second trimester depending on jurisdiction?

Do you think it's time to give men a choice to abort their unborn child and/or avoid child support without reprecussions if the child is unwanted? by htrsgnhtin AskReddit

[–]rmosler 1 point2 points ago*

Your idea of equality is interesting. I am not arguing that a man has the right to force a woman to abort a fetus. That is her choice. But once again, you advocate a system in which women has rights exceeding that of men. In your system, both the woman and man make a decision to have sex. The woman has an avenue through which she can correct her "mistake" after conception, but a man lacks this. Therefore his choice is final, and her choice is able to be altered. That is not equality. That is sexism.

EDIT: Oh,and downvoting people just because they have differing views is not reddiquette, and makes me think that your hotheadedness and emotions cloud your ability to reason.

Let me lead you through this... They both have options until the moment of conception. Then what?

As an aside, your emotional outbursts make it sound like your jimmies are getting quite rustled.

[–]rmosler 1 point2 points ago

I was obviously responding to the headline which is about MEN. You fucking moron.

Trust me, I understand what your point was. You are saying that a man is responsible for for his sexual decisions and that any decision he makes are final and he will have to live with the permanent life altering decision for at least the next 18+ years. I just assume that you stand for equality and therefore your views do not take the sex of the parent into consideration. Therefore you must be of the view that the woman also does not have a choice to abort vs. carrying the child to term. Let me break it down for you, there are four options:

  1. Both woman and man have choice = consistent.
  2. Both woman and man lack a choice = consistent.
  3. Man has choice, woman does not = inconsistent.
  4. Woman has choice, man does not = inconsistent.

I assume you are not hypocritical so you support either selection one or two. Since you argue that the man has no choice, you must be arguing in kind that the woman has no choice.

It's really pretty simple.

Do you think it's time to give men a choice to abort their unborn child and/or avoid child support without reprecussions if the child is unwanted? by htrsgnhtin AskReddit

[–]rmosler 3 points4 points ago

All I did was switch the sex in your statement and it sounds exactly the same as when anti choice activists blame women for their sexual urges. So I assume you believe in some sort of equality meaning you would set the same standard for women as for men. I mean otherwise you would be a hypocrite.

Zimmerman and the Burden of Proof by Chillmaticin law

[–]rmosler 3 points4 points ago

I believe it is that if the accused shows preponderance of the evidence pretrial, they are given immunity and the case dismissed. So prior to trial the burden of proof is on the defense. If it goes to trial, both parties agree that the homicide occurred by the accused. The defense argues the killing wasn't criminal, the prosecution argues it was criminal. The burden of proof is now on the prosecution to prove it was criminal.
