16; considering pastry school. I present key lime pie and whipped cream. Recipe in comments by sutekistrangerin food

[–]reconditecache 1 point2 points ago

Pastry chefs work terrible hours and the vast majority don't get to see anybody enjoy their creations on a day to day basis. Every one that I know works in an industrial kitchen at a hotel or a resort where they're gone before any guests arrive, or they work in a super market bakery where they don't get to experiment with anything.

Not to say that there aren't good jobs in that industry, but I would categorize "pastry chef" up there with "owning a coffeehouse" where loving the art has nothing to do with the job. Career baking rarely extends beyond mass production and repetitive motions slaving over treats that you aren't going to be enjoying yourself. It takes out a lot of the magic.

The best scenario available is to own your own bakery which takes more business courses than baking classes. Besides, you look like you're already great at that.

"Gays may have fastest of all civil rights movements" by Epistaxisin ainbow

You can't claim the initial gay pride pride parade for the start of the gay civil rights movement and only benchmark interracial marriage when the movement started getting momentum. Totally different stages of their respective movements. And it's different movements. But I agree, it's greatly based on perspective.

If you want to compare interracial marriage and gay marriage specifically, then we might only be able to go back as far as 2001 for same-sex marriage.

Seriously confused about my sexuality by lieselxin ainbow

[–]reconditecache 1 point2 points ago

Over-thinking. Labels only serve to help you communicate things to other humans. I know so many people you would call "demisexual" that I'm not even sure it needs a term. You are so not alone in that. I'm sure your experience to the contrary is just a factor of your age group.

Since labels only serve to communicate things to other people, I would drop the asexual label. It implies things that would only confuse possibly interested parties.

That's all I got for you. The others are way more qualified to weigh in on the other half of your labels. Just be you and enjoy the experience of figuring out what that means.

Which civil rights movement was faster?

The internet can probably be blamed for recent acceleration.

I'm not going to lie, transsexuals/transvestites freak me the fuck out. How can I deal with this in a healthy way? by sendentenin ainbow

[–]reconditecache 0 points1 point ago

Not sure if you still feel this way or not, but I didn't actually exaggerate.

I believe you now, but even then, that's not what I meant. Maybe it's just a matter of how casually literary you are, but the way you described the episodes felt less like a eyewitness account and more like a short story from a literary periodical. It seemed too well-constructed to be real.

If I had been telling the story, it would have just been a list of things I can't do and and then the various amounts of time that I had been incapacitated. Not that there is a proper way to recount things like that but I would have made any effort I could to not relive that hell. That's why initially thought you were faking. The stories were too evocative.

Now I know you're a writer who is also struggling with this condition and that your descriptions took that tone because you thought it would be more convincing. There wasn't really any way for you to know that I would react so negatively to what would otherwise have been commended in any other context. Good writing is applauded in every other situation ever.

Have a good night, man.

I just got this. Brand new orangered and it says it's from 29 days ago. Seems really weird. Like that romantic movie with the time traveling mailbox except with hatemail.

Even if this really is some message from past, it still has some stuff I think needed to be cleared up. First, that arachnophobia reference wasn't an attempt to belittle the problem. It was trying to say that freaking out that hard about anything, even something that actually has the potential to be deadly, isn't a healthy normal human reaction. I wouldn't react to that the same way I would react to a puppy that was scared during a thunderstorm.

Crying for hours as a result of seeing a spider isn't a personality quirk. It's a handicap that deserves legitimate medical attention. I would never just say "Oh, ignore the guy crying on the floor over there in a puddle of his own urine. He's just afraid of spiders."

I'm afraid of needles, but when it's time to draw blood, I just need to stop being a whiny bitch for five minutes and I'm out the door before I know it. I mean, my veins constrict and they usually have to dig around for a good line and one time I actually passed out. Asian lady with the smelling salts was yelling at me like it was my fault, lol.

Anyway, that's what I call being afraid. That pathetic little display of weakness is a walk in a park compared to what you're dealing with so when I was saying it wasn't just a phobia, I meant it was something more. Not less. Not sure if that was the sticking point or not.

I mean, I was being a pretty heinous asshole, so I know that wasn't the only issue, but I felt the need to clarify. You went off on such a tangent about how I was trivializing your problem when I was trying to elevate it to something that you didn't need to be telling sensationalized stories about.

Then that's a great opportunity to flesh that part of her out. Did you just cross your arms, pout and refuse to go? Why not go along grudgingly? Turning your nose up at all the contemptuous things you see and blushing at others gives you depth and doesn't make you a drag on the party. "Fish Out of Water" is a totally compelling storytelling trope. Maybe she tried wearing a big frumpy hat as a disguise! Unless she just started murdering people there, it would have been fun for everybody!

It's the idealism. I can tell you right now that I would never work at McDonalds. Of course, if I lose my job and bills start to pile up and flipping burgers is the only way for me to make ends meet, I'll flip the damn burgers. If my scruples were more important to me than eating, then I would have to choose to starve. Which is stupid.

If you character passes up a chance to do good with new found funds because the money indirectly came from a dishonorable source, then she's actively hindering good in the world. Is her only goal to be a shining example of knighthood or does she actually care about the people? When these things cross over each other, you could relent and not lose anything as far as your character is concerned. You were making a tough decision.

If she really is just concerned with being the white knight, what is she doing with this party? Is she trying to change them? Is she trying to use them to achieve her own goals? The character you're describing would have walked away after only a few short conversations with these arsonists. She would have just moved along to find her destiny elsewhere.

If she isn't a ridiculous caricature of an overly idealistic sheltered teenager, then she should absolutely be able to come up with better plans than the destructive players to solve problems. You explained it in the OP. They were going to steal a finite sum. You wanted to solve the problem. It should have been a trivial thing to convince them to try your way first and then promise them your sword in raising hell if it fails.

Can you tell me which parts of Carleetos' suggestions constituted cheating or stealing? I think your idea is great, being the paragon of good that she read about as a child. Just remember that you aren't playing Don Quixote.

You're playing a real person, not a parable. They reconsider things, they make mistakes and they trust their friends even if they aren't sure themselves. If your character belongs on a lone quest, then you can really just retire them as they have no business in a D&D party. This is one of the concessions one makes for the sake of the game.

Depending on the location, Google sometimes isn't allowed to display satellite images more recent than two years old. Something about national security.

That's why we don't have a "live feed" button to see what's currently being uploaded to Google Earth.

George Takei posted this to Facebook and while I love the man I don't believe that violence is the answer to violence. Thoughts, r/ainbow? by slyley07in ainbow

[–]reconditecache 3 points4 points ago

I know I'm waaay late to this party, but I think the reason you're getting crap here is because the note refers specifically to defense. The note doesn't say "I don't like your behavior so I'm going to use violence." It says that if he ever physically assaults the kid, that he will defend him.

The note does not imply any other scenario that could cause violence.

Heck, it doesn't even say stop bullying him. Not sure if this was all that clear to you. Bullying isn't always physical. In fact, it's mostly not. It's primarily emotional and psychological abuse. Usually some socially popular or physically large kid constantly berating you or casting doubt on everything you do in a situation where you can't fight back because either they're surrounded by friends or something or other that makes them basically immune to whatever you would fight back with. They feed on the helplessness.

The note just threatens the bully to never physically threaten the boy because that's all the excuse he needs.

I'm not racist. Anybody can be a cunt.

It's not a switcheroo if you're the only one generalizing entire races. In fact, if you think white people need to do shit or feel shit just because they're white, then it's just more proof that you're a filthy racist.

"I'm white, but it's okay because I try to be more empathetic"

I'm empathetic and it had jack shit to do with the color of my skin.

You're really really racist. It's not a debate tactic. It's a plea for you to examine your incredible bias.

I mean, white people didn't even do all the shit that you seem to think they did. People did it. The ones in power at the time took advantage of everybody they could. Go watch the documentary Gun, Germs and Steel to get a feel for how little ethnicity had to do with the people in power at any given time. Native Americans just got totally fucked by a subgroup of the people who developed guns first. They happened to be white.

What language do you speak? Do I have to spell this out for you?!

If White Guilt exists, then white people know they are privileged.

If white people know they are privileged, then it's not a secret that you need to keep quiet.

If it's not a secret, then you're making a huge deal out of something just because you're not white.

Note that I'm not even defending white people. You're the only one here talking about entire races like they're a homogeneous group.

Your thinly veiled hatred for "white people" shows that you're a racist cunt.

But it totally is. Each civilization builds off the backs of every civilization that came before it. Just look at music.

You're not this dumb. You just want to feel justified in your hatred of some dumb white chick at the mall.

Edit:

Dare I even bring up "privilege"?

This can go fuck itself. White people everywhere know they're privileged. You ever heard of white guilt? It's a huge cultural zeitgeist where we're never allowed to be proud of being white. It wouldn't exist if white people were the way you seem to think they are.

So I'm pretty sure you're the most racist motherfucker in here.

...What? I can think of a dozen ways you could have possibly misunderstood me, but that one came out of nowhere.

I wasn't in any way saying that the shit in any civilization is natural. The process of shit changing is natural.

Case in point, the way we don't treat women like property anymore is a natural progression.

President Obama nailed it on same-sex marriage and the separation of church and state today by mepperin ainbow

[–]reconditecache 0 points1 point ago

It's a really hot issue. I'm sure he held back on making a stance as long as he possibly could. I don't really see how saying so now benefits him any more than it would have at some other more opportunistic time except that after the travesty of North Carolina, it probably made sense for him to come out against it. I mean, if he was only saying that as a political stunt, it would have made more sense to side with the winners, wouldn't it?

Christian in my town asked to stop attending the local Atheist meetings. Here's the letter and his response. by meowbarkhissin atheism

[–]reconditecache 2 points3 points ago

I don't know where you came up with "We are better than them. No thems allowed."

That was stated literally nowhere so I think you need to examine the bias you're arriving from. You had to invent it from whole cloth. You mind created it. You figure that shit out first, and then we'll discuss it.

Second, I'm willing to bet you are always surrounded by like-minded individuals. I'm lucky enough to live in Los Angeles where everybody is a weirdo like myself and likewise would have a hard time coming up with a reason to exclude a christian from any meeting I chose to attend. That doesn't mean that I don't know there are places where thinking differently than the majority can make you feel threatened and uncomfortable.

It's not something that you just don't give a fuck about. They control everything. Your job, your friends, your girlfriends. Your family might be among them. It's oppressive. You're either completely incapable of imagining this except in your own wildest internet fantasies where you're witty and brave, or you're just trolling.
