Trampoline. Good or bad idea? by mookxin Parenting

[–]onfirewhenigothere 0 points1 point ago

You might have a circus arts school near you with trampoline classes (including for adults). Maybe take a class or two, and talk to the instructors about proper home safety.

Making sure kids obey limits and safety protocols would be key. If your kids would do that, go for it. If they are always testing limits not matter what, then maybe not.

HELP! I'm a new parent by Mo97628in Parenting

[–]onfirewhenigothere 1 point2 points ago

You might try skin on skin with dad? (AKA Kangaroo care) My girl who was born 5 weeks early loves dad time, both chests naked, she can feel his heart and get warm. Dad reads a Dr. suess book to her, then whatever book he's reading at the time out loud. a deep rumbly voice may be comforting.

How can I get my teenager to get a job? by hockeymanazin Parenting

[–]onfirewhenigothere 2 points3 points ago

My mom made me pay for half of my car insurance premium if I wanted to drive her car anywhere. I also had to pay for hair dye, and any clothes over a certain budget.

You can't make anyone do anything, but you can provide incentives. My first job was as a receptionist at a hair salon, much better than McDonalds!!!

Hey parents, my husband and I are trying to decide if IVF is right for us, even though we can naturally conceive, but there's a 50% chance of passing on a potentially crippling disease. Thoughts? by novemberwolfein Parenting

[–]onfirewhenigothere -2 points-1 points ago

It's my understanding that IVF babies can be fragile in other ways, or lead to more high risk pregnancies...maybe look into that as you are choosing?

I personally would go au natural, but can't give you a rational basis.

How soon to start preparing the nursery? by 99outofahundredin BabyBumps

[–]onfirewhenigothere 5 points6 points ago

You might also have the baby early. I did, at 35 weeks (due date is June 8th!!!). I am still staining shelving for above the diaper station. It is totally chaotic. The crib is still in its box, and we are using a hand me down play yard until we are less sleep deprived.

DAE think the /r/Mommit header is kind of silly looking? by Axorain Mommit

I think it's cute, but targeted at a particular child's age group, not all the way to teen years...

It would be nice for the aliens and hands to be properly composited against the background.

Exhaustion rant... by Riven180in beyondthebump

Both my hospital and my OB had lines to call if you are feeling overwhelmed. Try them! I am coming up on two weeks with my daughter, and have not had more than three hours at a stretch.

Best APP for recording lectures. by mynameisparrishin ipad

[–]onfirewhenigothere 1 point2 points ago

You might like moe's notes. You can scrub at high speed, so you can speed up the playback of the lecture and still understand the words. You can also cut out parts of the audio. The developer used to work with Thomas Dolby.

I need to move out of my house ASAP to get away from my family... What can a girl do to speed up the process? by Lalala2Xin TwoXChromosomes

[–]onfirewhenigothere 2 points3 points ago

You might be able to get room and board as an au pair or senior companion... Usually for ten ours a week or something like that, you can get a room. The you could look for other work around that schedule. Then work hard and save for a year, and upgrade the situation. good luck!!!

Would you date someone that was clinically depressed? by thrownawayasdfin AskWomen

Not again. Spent two years getting more and more down when it wasn't my fault. And sex with someone on ssris is annoying.

Anyone else feel like there's just no more room for baby in their belly? by themudflapfeministin BabyBumps

Yes. Have short torso but 5'9". OMG I now understand why there are so many inductions for 'maternal discomfort'. Ultrasound last Friday estimates her at 6lb 12 oz. with 5 more weeks at .5 lb/ week that's 9+lbs... Too heavy already!!!

Ron Paul wins Maine by NicknameAvailablein politics

[–]onfirewhenigothere 1 point2 points ago

Unless you are a woman who wants freedom over her reproductive system, alas. Wish I could like him, but can't because of this. If his policies were in effect, my married sister hoping for a child would be dead from an ectopic pregnancy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ectopic_pregnancy

'After being forced to witness an abortion being performed during his time in medical school, he knew from that moment on that his practice would focus on protecting life. And during his years in medicine, never once did he find an abortion necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman.'

Stuck between a rock (hospital birth) and a hard place (unassisted home birth). Kind of a rant, kind of a dilemma. by Elphantein BabyBumps

[–]onfirewhenigothere 0 points1 point ago

A friend of mine gave birth mostly unassisted, the doula was not supposed to touch her or something legally. I would hope you can find someone in addition to your husband, so that he can take a break and thus can focus on you 100%. Sounds like a lot for the two of you to know if you need to go to the hospital.

I'm giving birth at the hospital, because that's what's paid for, and if there's an emergency, I don't want to have to move in the middle of it. But it's a hospital that is baby friendly, my doctor is known for low interventions, and the nurses on staff are happy to help you have a pain med free birth. If the hospitals in my area were not known for that, I'd be less sanguine.

I'm trusting divine providence to have the right people there at baby girl's birth.

Good luck however you do it!

Gynecologist and insurance privacy questions that i need answered ladies... by throwwwawaytwoxin TwoXChromosomes

[–]onfirewhenigothere 2 points3 points ago

I don't know what a parent receives for a child, but I get a detailed explanation from the insurance company after every visit, that has things like lab work, ultrasound, immunization on it.... But does not have the exact immunization, or lab test name. For a prescription, as long as it's generic, shouldn't show up on the insurance listing, and your mom shouldn't know about it at all, or what it was for.

A panel result can be mailed to you (at your address and doesn't need to go to mom's), you can have them call you, it usually takes at least 24 hours for a result.

if you go to a lady doctor your mom knows, or can guess, she might be able to get info from them even up though she shouldn't (my stepmother is a doctor and would pretend to be my family doctor and would get into my records at the student health center. I don't talk much with her anymore.) I wouldn't tell your mom who you are seeing or where, though I suppose it may show up on insurance.

good luck!

How do you get out of an abusive relationship? by HowToThrowAway1in TwoXChromosomes

Many families, even though they may have disowned you, will welcome back a prodigal daughter. If anyone was still kind, you may be able to reach them, especially if you want help getting out.

Woohoo, marginal previa moved. by onfirewhenigotherein BabyBumps

[–]onfirewhenigothere[S] 0 points1 point ago

I only had some bleeding last week. Since it was marginal, it was only after the bleeding that they told me to rest the pelvis... Course, it was pelvic unrest that probably led to the bleeding, so better safe than sorry. We actually ended up at the hospital with contractions, and they had to give me terbutaline to stop them! Completely scary with the previa. I hope yours moves!!!!
