The rule of thumb I go by in general is "clean the gun when it begins to malfunction."

The caveats on this rule are: always clean/lube if it gets caught in the rain; corrosive ammo; a concealed carry should be cleaned after every other trip. you cannot afford for it to malfunction.

It will go on my .308 once it gets back from the gunsmith. Getting a brake, similar to yours, added to my long range baby.

So far I have only take it out to 100yd for 1 day, but I get the rifle back Thursday and Saturday a guy is opening up a 1500yd range about 35 miles from my place. Also 200rnds 175gr Federal GMM showing up on Thursday. Lol, and the 1600yd laser range finder showed up just today!

Long ago in the Boy Scouts I took the shotgun shooting merit badge. Before you got to the shooting part you had to take a test which included a part where you defined each part of the shotgun such as the trigger, bolt, barrel, magazine, etc.

The only acceptable answer for "Safety" was: A mechanical device that can and will fail.

To this day the only time I have seen a safety fail is when it was not fully engaged, but I still dont trust the fuckers.
