This is for High Bridge, correct?

On the PDF I still only see the seven trains leaving High Bridge to Newark: 5:53a, 6:21a, 6:44a, 9:20a, 12:20p, 3:09p, 4:42p.

Okay, heading back to High Bridge from Newark I do see more, you are right there: 8:34a, 11:41a, 2:41p, 4:25p, 6:18p, 6:55p, 8:50p, 10:35p, 12:34p -- so there are some late-night trains, I must have missed them the first time.

And it does not run at all from High Bridge on weekends.

btw, the issue here isn't the transfer at newark, it's the fact that High Bridge is a very small & limited NJT station.

oops, i explain the wonky-ness in my other response. basically there are only like 10 trains a day that depart/arrive at highbridge and i don't think there are any on weekends.

The PATH would be cheaper but i think it would take longer from newark - it would be a more reasonable option if you were going to the financial district or other areas of lower manhattan. most of the morning NJT trains express right from newark penn to ny penn (or have 1 stop in between at seacaucus) so it's pretty short. I wouldn't bother with the PATH if you're going to midtown.

And if you take the Transbridge you don't need to worry about transfers or any stops at all! I get why you're nervous about the bus. But it's a private bus company, not NJT. It is basically just for commuters. Trust me, having some fancy monthly pass from NJT does not make the trains run any faster or make them any more reliable.

To be honest, the commute is going to suck no matter how you get there. Whether there's road traffic that holds up the bus, or someone "trespassed" on the tracks to hold up the train, there will always be delays at some point or another.

That sounds about right. I thought you bought the commuter books at the window, but it could be from the driver. I have never used it for daily commuting. It still is your best option as the buses run on a very regular schedule.

Did you look at the NJT Highbridge train schedule? It's barely usable: going to Newark on a weekday has 5:53a, 6:21a, 9:20a, 12:20p, 3:09p, 4:42p, then heading home from newark there's 4:44p, 5:37p, 6:23p, 7:24p. That's it! It's just not a good area for the train unless you're south or east of new brunswick.

Yep, that's the Transbridge bus I mentioned above. That is your best bet right there. Who cares if they use outdated little tickets. Have you seen the DC metro machines?

If you don't mind driving to Annandale (there's a giant parking lot at the bus stop), take the Transbridge bus. It's the easiest way into the city from that area (reliable and has a good schedule). I have two friends who currently take it every day into the city for work. It is all NJ commuters - nothing sketchy about it.

I would avoid the NJT train there especially since it involves a transfer at newark and I think the schedule is a bit wonky.

I am not sure the price of Transbridge but a year ago, a monthly pass from Edison train station to NY Penn was $350. I'd imagine your commute costs will be a little bit higher (regardless of what you take) since you're 30 minutes west of there.

I'm not sure how east you'll be going in midtown, but I used to just walk from Port Authority to 34th & broadway to save myself money on the subway.

Where can I sunbathe topless without offending anyone or being harrassed? by OhNoBeesin nyc

[–]lintacious 4 points5 points ago

I was actually thinking about this the other day and I think if you just sunbathed naturally, not walking around making a spectacle of yourself, not doing it in a large group, you'd be fine. I'd maybe stay more in the middle of an open field (less chance for gawkers) and away from kids' areas like baseball fields.

Visiting NYC this weekend for the first time for a class trip! I seek your wisdom of the big city! by interventionneonin nyc

[–]lintacious 2 points3 points ago

hey mods, can we move the "ideas for visitors and tourists" link to the top of the sidebar and bold it and make it blink and put it in neon with 72px font.

OP: you probably won't have much free time where you can stray from the group. you did not mention where you will be, how old you are, or what you like to do. so here are some generic things: check out the library (5th ave at 40th), the museum of natural history and the highline if you can get to it.

NBC renews Community for 13-episode fourth season by Dream_the_Unpossiblein television

[–]lintacious 0 points1 point ago

I can sometimes even hear in my head what and HOW they are gonna say something before they do it

this is why i generally can't watch any comedies, they are just too predictable for me to find entertaining. i'm only a few episodes into season 1 of Community and am on the fence. Half of the time I can predict what they're going to say, but the other half surprises me and is actually funny dialog. It's unfortunate that maintaining that level of creativity is so difficult. (i'm not saying i could do a better job...)

i've played "fuck you pyramid" which is kind of similar. i am foggy on the details (clearly it's a great game). the pyramid of cards is the same. but when discarding your card of matching value, you yell "fuck you [friend's name]". when the discarding slows down, the dealer will count off "3-2-1-over" resulting in the end of the round. the strategy here is you can hold onto a card in hopes to play it right at the end and screw over a friend. once the round is over, the last person's name that was called, for example, "fuck you anthony", anthony will have to start drinking. how much they drink is determined by the next part.

the number of cards in the discard pile is added up and you go around the room counting off to the total of the discard pile (multiply the total by the level of the pyramid you're at). so if the discard pile was made up of 25 cards, anthony starts drinking and each person counts off 1, 2, 3 etc. But, when it's your turn in the count, you don't need to say your number right away -- if you want to make anthony drink more. However, if anthony finishes his drink when it's your turn in the count, then you need to start drinking and the group continues counting off.

Chiming in with the rules I've played by, since I don't already see them:

4: Floor (everyone has to touch the floor, last one drinks)
5: Guys (guys drink)
6: Chicks (girls drink)
7: Heaven (everyone has to put their hand up, last one drinks)

i've played it as this, as well. only variation is that when someone makes it to 21, they have the option of making up a new rule or finishing their drink.
