Skeptics dating people who believe in psychics? by RobotBuddhain relationship_advice

My ex truly believed in psychics, going so far as to spend $60 an hour getting readings. This psychic would then tell her how she saw psychic potential in my ex and would proceed to sell her all sorts of merchandise.

After 6 months of dealing with crazy psychic talk I took matters into my own hands. I volunteered to get a reading. The timing was perfect, I had just had a very tragic death in the family, something any psychic worth $60/hour should be able to detect.

The psychic began by listing dead relatives, grasping at straws. Eventually she came up with a dead relative I was satisfied with (a dead brother that I didn't have) and I let her invent this persona from thin air. My ex sat in the corner of the room, expressionless. For the next 50 minutes I received loving advice from my fairytale dead brother complete with tears (from both the psychic and I).

When the session was over, we left without a word being said and that was the last time I had to listen to any psychic babble talk.

It's going to hurt like hell for awhile no matter what. There's a ton of advice out there for ways to cope and you'll have to discover what works best for you.

I do have one piece of critical advice though - Do not under any circumstances communicate with him for a couple of months at-a-minimum. Every time you do, you'll set back your recovery.

Most of us begin the same way. We all start out thinking we've found 'true love' our first or second time around.

Pretend you've never seen a movie before and you've decided that you will only watch one movie for the rest of your life. Chances are you'd think this was a bad idea, I mean you wouldn't even get to experience the different genres. Trust me, there are a lot of good movies to see.

If it doesn't work out, it's not a waste a time. It was an experience you'll carry with you into the future. For the better.

We are creatures of compromise - eventually it will hurt enough that your mind will give you the reset you are looking for.

This is going to be a tough problem for reddit to solve. It sounds like there may be some social issues or behaviors that might be limiting your connection to other people.

I would suggest you see a counselor and get their honest opinion. People are notoriously bad at self-evaluation and it might be that you are just not seeing the problem.

The issue of acceptable evidence will have to be touched on later as my understanding is that homeopathy has a hard time fitting within the traditional paradigms of allopathic trials.

On patient responsibility - *Do you provide full disclosure to about the questionable efficacy of the treatment you are providing? *Do you inform them of the potential risks of ignoring conventional treatments? *Is there a limit to the types of conditions/diseases you'll treat? (e.g cancers, hiv/aids, malaria, etc).

I don't think it's entirely fair to expect a patient to have the capability to make critical health decisions without the expert guidance of care providers. In this case, a person may trust a homeopathic provider to the exclusion of all other available treatments.

Have you done any research of your own into the matter of the JREF challenge? It sounds like you've just 'heard' stuff.

I don't understand how the man himself being bias makes his publicly audited mutually-designed challenge any less valid.

It's your obligation as a care provider to ensure that the care you are providing is real and effective. If it is, there is a free $million in it for you.

Yes but you have to allow him work with you and no-one wants to work with him because (a) he's a magician and (b) he's biased. The protocol is public. The terms are mutually-agreed upon and he isn't even present for the first round qualifier. This is an excuse. If you think it works, prove it.

Biased indeed, the entirety of established science is biased against homeopathy.

The video is worth a watch. James Randi has led the charge against homeopathy for some time now.

He will occasionally take entire boxes of homeopathic sleeping medicines before giving his presentations. Plus as a bonus: If you can prove homeopathy works under scientific conditions you get $1 million dollars from JREF.

My boyfriends ignoring me. What should I do? by MeeperCreeperin relationship_advice

I hate to say it, but at this point there aren't any good options. If you continue trying to get him to "open up" he's not going to see that as an act of love, but an act of desperation/dependence.

The best thing you can do is walk away as a strong independent person, dignity intact. Occasionally your SO will realize what they've lost, sometimes they'll just pretend, and sometimes they just don't care. In any case, you deserve a boyfriend that cares about you.

I wish you luck!

My advice - Stop trying so hard to communicate with him. If he's truly interested in the relationship he'll notice the distance from you.

If he doesn't, that means you are the only advocate for the relationship and he just isn't interested in continuing it.

Don't be this guy's "Old Reliable".
