CT Regional Connection Problems and Discussion by DinoSawyer_RAWRin FRC

Considering his vulgar choice of words for the Emperor of FRC, it's probably a good thing he hasn't identified with his team number. :P

Same for us. Guess we'll do BAE and WPI next year. Back to back will be rough but at least we won't go to Connecticut.

I haven't heard anything of it. I'd be all for such an appeal, but I don't think there's much that could be done at this point. Lemme know if you hear more.

I'm tired of regionals being decided by the field. It's been 4 years now off the IFI control system. They're supposed to have figured this out, not blame it on the teams every time it pops up. I wouldn't be so critical with such a complex intricate system if FIRST hadn't thrown away a perfectly good and working one after 2008.

I think he was addressing Dan specifically because he knew something about the situation that "Dan" wouldn't have posted.

Congratulations on your win, your robot was a dominant scorer and I am very glad you guys qualified for Champs. We would have loved a fight in the Finals against you guys - if you had a triple balance in your back pocket, then who knows what might have happened?

Did you "thumbs-down" when they said "color alliance ready?"

CT Regional Connection Problems and Discussion by DinoSawyer_RAWRin FRC

I wouldn't be so quick to slander the volunteers. They have more knowledge than you think with regards to the control system, especially the FTA and Control System Advisors. Considering that the FTAs / CSAs at CT were either employed by the company that makes the control system or were just one phone call away from them, I certainly think they would know a bit more than you.

First thing - 558's particular issues were due to a loose electrical connection. Just a heads up. The other issues were mysterious, but 558's wasn't the field.

One thing that is worth noting is that on this same field at the NYC regional a few weeks ago, 2168 faced a very similar fate. On the Red alliance, #1 seed, made it to the semi-finals, only to have their great run squashed by the very same mysterious connection issue. I do not envy that great team one bit.

The decision to publicly blame the teams and to claim the issues "could not have been caused by the field" was in my personal opinion terrible. The field logs did not conclusively prove anything, and the field CAN cause a cRIO reboot in rare circumstances. I don't want to blame any volunteers in particular, including the FTA, whom privately said that they had no idea if the fault was due to the field or not, or the emcee, but however that decision happened, it destroyed any shred of integrity the regional had left in my eyes.

I've been a long time fan of the Bobcats. When we seeded in 2010, we picked them and learned a lot from the experience. Their six year run on Einstein was inspiring. They, 228, and 236 deserved to win their matches. I wanted to see our team's alliance run against theirs in the finals - two very dynamic, well selected, and cohesive alliances of six smart teams. That would have been amazing.

How can we stop marketing campaigns from spamming Reddit? They seem to be using only a couple dozen very young accounts to post and upvote. by mariod505in TheoryOfReddit

[–]chrisisme 2 points3 points ago

The line between marketing and content sharing gets blurrier every day. I would wager that quite a lot of things posted to Reddit are promoted with some kind of incentive to the original poster (other than Karma).

I do wish things were simpler.

I love people not sitting next to me on the bus, but I'm also somewhat insulted by it. Reddit, what self-contradictions do you admit to? by Garaceshin AskReddit

[–]chrisisme 2 points3 points ago

Sometimes people tailgate because they are so stupid they think that is what you're actually supposed to do at 60 miles an hour in very light traffic. These are GENERALLY the same people that will cross double yellows to pass, or will pass two (non-tailgating) cars at once, or other dumb shit. Some of these drivers, the friendly-but-a-little-dumb ones, will get a clue if you signal, immediately giving you a completely normal amount of room. I generally accept these particular tailgaters passing me in grace by taking smug comfort in knowing they are worse drivers than me. :P (Not that I'm a good driver or anything - I just default to overly cautious...)

When someone passes me in a responsible manner and then continues onward actually going faster than I was, I take comfort in knowing that they had the opportunity to get to their destination faster than they would have if they were behind me.

I've been thinking a lot about this lately because I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who sticks within 5 of the speed limit in northern Wisconsin.

Advice for a young polyamorist by tripletcodein polyamory

[–]chrisisme 1 point2 points ago

I would start by finding a polyamorist social gathering, and see how it goes from there. You'll learn a lot about your particular region, the people around it, and you just might find what you're looking for.

I've wanted to date every single one of my female friends at some point. What's wrong with that? by TenaciousDeezin relationship_advice

[–]chrisisme 0 points1 point ago

You're totally fine. The advice about "not dating friends", to me, is well intentioned but not universal.

Becoming friends with someone with the intention of dating them - pretty bad idea.

Not asking someone out because "it'll ruin the friendship" - a stupid cop-out.

Dating friends - nothing inherently wrong with that, if everyone's willing. There is the risk of rejection, which is magnified by the possible risk of damaging your relationship as friends, but to be honest I have yet to have a "ruined friendship" in my (short as hell) life just because I asked them on a date.

People (apparently? I wouldn't know from experience on this one) get more selective with women as they go through more relationships. To me, you're not abnormal, just open minded!

I'm not married, and I'd rather not get into how I feel I'm qualified to talk about this issue.

It takes work. But don't let that discourage you; every long term relationship needs that same kind of work. Perhaps not as intense as regular group therapy, but it can absolutely work, if both sides are willing to try.

Just revamped my profile, may I have some critiques/comments/suggestions? by miss-mafiosain OkCupid

[–]chrisisme 1 point2 points ago

All of this is from my gut. I figure that's what you'd be looking for.

Your thumbnail / profile picture is a bit too dark. The second picture is a lot better - brighter and very flattering. I'd definitely be more likely to click and go "oh, she's worth a look" with one of the other pictures. The second and fourth are my personal favorites.

The prose in your profile is pretty engaging, with a nice air of self-confidence and self-awareness. You're unashamed and proud of yourself and your interests, and that's pretty attractive!

So in short, I see no reason if I were a single guy in San Antonio that I wouldn't message you. Best of luck finding dates and all that.

Interesting discussion nonetheless.

I know of a high schooler who did something very similar and got back his complete file. I don't think your assumption that the FBI doesn't comply with FOIA for minors is a little silly.

Just slept with my best friend. I don't want to lose her, but I think I'm in love with her by BFsleeperin relationship_advice

[–]chrisisme 0 points1 point ago

You're entitled to give your advice. I'm entitled to post that I think your advice is flawed. Goes both ways.

Personally, I think indirectly talking about relationships is just pussyfooting around what they both know is going on, and the only way to honestly go for a relationship is to fucking go for it, rather than to look for reasons it won't work. I find it particularly ironic that you're telling him to be honest in the same paragraph that you're telling him to avoid talking about the elephant in the room.
