SATA ports (two of which never worked)

On my board, you had to specifically enable SATA ports 5 and 6 in the BIOS if I'm not mistaken. Any chance that might have been the case with yours, too? M3A78-T here, for what it's worth.

Not to mention a BIOS that was incomprehensible and terribly organized as well.

Well, the general layout is down to the BIOS manufacturer, i.e. AMI, Award etc., but I agree that they should at least explain the function of the most cryptic options in the manual or, even better, right in the BIOS setup menu.
