Looking for [LOW CAL] [LOW CARB] [HIGH PROTEIN] and possibly [CHEAP]. Top posts will be my meals for the remainder of the month. by scrunchiesmcgeein fitmeals

Stuffed swiss chard leaves.

Take ground (meat), brown with spices. (Cumin, garlic, onion, feta, rosemary, thyme, sundried tomatoes, pretty much whatever.) Mix in 1-2 eggs. Stuff into the swiss chard leaves. Roll them up. Top with tomato sauce and bake for ~15 minutes at 350 or until warm.

Coffee drinking linked to longer life by vajavin Health

[–]Noressa 0 points1 point ago

I'm going to assume without. ;) I'm scared enough about type 2 diabetes (both sides of my family have it) that even the idea that it's somehow related is enough to get me to drink it. I personally abhor the taste... But I'll have my 2 cups in the morning.

Don't forget it's been shown to help prevent against type 2 diabetes. :)

42% of Americans to be obese by 2030.. by kcallzin Fitness

Yup, sorry, hate to break it to you. (They acknowledge there would be issues lowing it, but even saying we know this is flawed, here are better measures of health... I think they should just use those better measures of health!)

What do you Ladies (and Gents) feel about national health care in the USA? by TheMentoManin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Noressa 1 point2 points ago

I want national health care. I dearly, dearly want it. I can't understand why the hell we don't have it here. I mean, I know the politics and finances behind the reasoning, but it doesn't help the human factor, in my opinion.

I just got health insurance for the first time in years, again. And now I'm seeing a cardiologist, primary care physician and podiatrist for a myriad of reasons I want to for the last few years and couldn't justify the expense. I've been using Planned Parenthood for my birth control because I could buy it for $45 there, and it was costing me $93 at a pharmacy without insurance. And that was on their time, their schedule and led to 2 harrowing moments when the clinic I went to was closed during times I needed a refill and meant I had to pay for an entire checkup at another clinic that was open because they couldn't transfer the prescription.

I think we should have equal access to doctors, to medication and to not feel as though unless something is life threatening, I can put it off. This is dangerous territory. =/

Skip store-bought ice cream, make your own. by humbledin keto

[–]Noressa 1 point2 points ago

It is! I find coconut milk delicious and adds great flavor. Add some cardamom and freshly grated nutmeg, and you're looking at some delicious flavor. :) Bonus points adding toasted coconut!

You don't have to eat it all...? And some of us really enjoy coconut milk.

You can also make it with canned coconut milk. 0=)

Rinse them, then I warm them up in butter. :) It imparts a nice flavor to them. :)

How do you keep at it? by Trevinistin loseit

[–]Noressa 1 point2 points ago

I make delicious food that I want to eat, and realize that counting the calories of it is just a small portion of it. I've turned into a rather nice cook at home. :) Tonights dinner is cod curry, we had a lamb/chicken chili earlier this week. Thin sliced ribeye rolls with horseradish stuffing. Asparagus with bacon and caramelized onions. Kale with parmesan, linguica, onion and garlic seasoned with paprika.

And what I have to do to make it work is know the calories involved. And then I pick my servings and I eat delicious, tasty food that makes me happy... And keeps me going! If I hated this process I would have stopped, but I've turned it into something that I really do enjoy. :)

“I just got out of a relationship” by Heckubus_in OkCupid

[–]Noressa 4 points5 points ago

I disagree. The first thing I did after ending two LTR's was getting back into the dating scene... In addition to working on myself! I stated up front that I was out of a relationship, but I also wasn't looking for serious/long term. I wanted to be with people, talk with them and internet strangers make for a great time with that.

And eventually, when I was ready, I got into a fantastic relationship from the site. Flirting helps build confidence. If this relationship ends for some reason, I'm absolutely headed straight back on to a dating site. I keep my motives clear... But I won't stop doing it.

Had a Dr. come into my nutrition class to lecture about diabetes by Piss_Marks_MY_Spotin Paleo

[–]Noressa 3 points4 points ago

Oh, I totally agree! I love them. Kale, chard, asparagus, artichokes, fennel, onion, garlic, bell peppers, tomatoes, I eat them often (and more!) But trying to talk to her about eating meat and fat and she would just say you'd be healthier without it. So frustrating.

[–]Noressa 3 points4 points ago

I went to listen to a nutritionist talk at one point and all she could say is "More fruit and veg! Reduce meat intake, live longer, healthier lives! Fat is evil! Meat and fat will raise your cholesterol, only veg will cure you!"

And I wish I was kidding. It was awful. :p I wish I had my blood tests then to discuss it with her. (Keto/paleo for 9 months, a1c at 4.4, triglycerides at 81, HDL at 64, LDL at 118, HDL ratio at 3.1) So... Where's my meat and fat? :p

Opinions on whether or not your bf/future spouse/etc. should be a gamer or not! by tinymonkeytin GirlGamers

[–]Noressa 6 points7 points ago

So I know for my fiance... He needed to have a girl who was a gamer. His life is games. He makes them. He works for a game studio. He's played games for as long as he can remember, really. The idea of finding a partner who wasn't into games (which is a huge part of his life) is right out. He'd tried that.

My take? If my partner didn't play games, I'd need someone who understood that games are pretty important at times. Yes, dear, I didn't come to see you at the door because I was in the middle of a raid and not dying in fire was more important at the moment then getting up to give you a hug. I will do things non game related, but yeah, I like spending quiet time together playing silly video games! (Rift, Tribes: Ascend, Mario and Luigi at the moment.)

So mandatory? For me, no... But for my partner, required. (And really, I do mean they have to understand. If I'm in a raid, it's not that I don't love them anymore, it's that every so often a game that's social and requires people to do things at certain times is important in my world.)

Is it all for naught if I can't get access to equipment to deadlift? [NROWLFW] by thebeerbabein xxfitness

[–]Noressa 0 points1 point ago

Do dumbbell deadlifts then. Same movement, less space. Not 100% the same, but close. :)

Is it all for naught if I can't get access to equipment to deadlift? [NROWLFW] by thebeerbabein xxfitness

[–]Noressa 2 points3 points ago

If there is a place you can do squats, you can do deadlifts there. If you have no bar (???) you can do this with dumbbells as opposed to barbells. The movement for deadlifts is unique, there really is no good replacement for deadlifts or squats.

Would it still be appropriate to respond over a month after getting a message? by iAMaHUSKYin OkCupid

[–]Noressa 0 points1 point ago

Pretty much. In our case we were just starting off as a FWB relationship, so it was open ended on pretty much every angle. Maybe she'll be up for it, maybe she won't. Worst case, she says no and you find someone else. :)

That's always such a good feeling. I remember when this like, 70 year old asian man who was incredibly buff at the gym I went to did that. I mean, I was watching this guy do some amazing weights, pull ups, etc. And he walked up and said how proud he was of the work I'd put in. That was such an amazing day.

I kind of miss that from not going to a public gym anymore, but I'm glad you have that. It is seriously happy making. :)

You'll be fine watching calories. Low carb is one way to lose weight. Paleo is another. Watching calories? Totally worked for me for my first 40 pounds lost. If this is what you can do, then do it. You'll still lose weight, it's just one of many ways you can do so. :)
