The first song that pops into my head would be Prince's "I Would Die 4 U" It's spiritual, but not overtly religious.

There's got to be someone who loved his Thriller tatoo until the 1993 business came up.

There's no one like Paul McCartney. Ram is a completely unique album. I can't think of another that has the same vibe.

Skinny Jeans For Babies? by [deleted]in TwoXChromosomes

I grew up in the 80s. Pretty much every picture taken of me from 1984 and on, I'm wearing skinny jeans (or leggings). I don't see the big deal that they are coming back for kids. I bought a pair for my 6 year old son at the Gap a few weeks ago, actually.

Just as long as tight-rolling doesn't come back, we're good.

I got downvoted for saying I liked funk music once. That one had me scratching my head. How can you downvote someone for liking a certain genre?

What's interesting about your family's history? by newsunin AskReddit

[–]JeanHarlow 1 point2 points ago

My great-great-great-great grandparents worked for Napoleon III of France. She was a seamstress for the ladies in waiting and he was a palace guard. They were married in the Notre Dame cathedral, then moved to the US to open a bakery.

I don't know if it's interesting to anyone else, but I'm a history nerd so it makes me happy. I went to Paris a couple of years ago and seriously felt a strange connection to the Notre Dame when I was there. It was surreal to think that my ancestors had married there 150 years earlier, within the same walls that I was standing in.

All the rest of my relatives were a bunch of Irish peasant farmers who migrated to the US during the potato famine.

What happened to your childhood archenemy? by noworryhatebombstillin AskReddit

[–]JeanHarlow 45 points46 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

My archenemy was a girl who used to make fun of me because I never had a boyfriend, while she always had several guys she was stringing along at a time. She used to make a lot of "I'm going out tonight. Have fun fingering yourself" kind of comments. I hated her with a passion. Fast forward 15 years later, I've been happily married for 10 years, and she is still going out to bars pretty much every night, complaining that all the good guys are taken.

They do a lot of things they do that I have no interest in doing, and vice versa. I don't need to have everything in common with my friends in order to be friends with them. I'm sure they would have no understanding of why I like to get up at 4:30 am and run five miles either, but I'm not going to try to convince them it's amazing just because I like to do it.

I'm a woman and I have drank multiple men under the table. I have no way of explaining it. It just doesn't do much for me. A lot of my family members are the same way. I can take it or leave it.

I've tried it many times, many different circumstances. I'm just telling you, it didn't do too much for me. But I'm not that affected by alcohol either, so who knows? I've never thrown up from drinking, or blacked out, or done anything crazy that I wouldn't have done if I wasn't drinking, or even had a hangover.

Gone with the Wind. Scarlett O'Hara is a raging bitch the entire book and in the end, she gets dumped and ends up alone.

(Sorry for the spoiler. But it's been out for about 70+ years. You've had time.)

I don't get it. I've tried it and I feel exactly the same. I always tell my pothead friends that they just smoke weed so they can become me. I'm already relaxed, kind of spacey, get paranoid, and crave carbs in my natural state.

1 strikes close to home. My aunt wanted to name my mother Cat when she was born, but my grandmother named her Kathleen as a compromise. Everyone in our family calls her kitty, but my aunt still calls her Cat.

No question, it just struck me how strange it is that two families could have such a similar story

I'd recommend something vintage inspired, like a 1960s ish cocktail dress. Watch Mad Men and get some ideas. A full skirt will solve the pear shape issues.

Exactly. My kids are not reflections of me. They are their own people, and they are cool little people, but that has nothing to do with me. They are on their own journey, and I'm just around to be a tour guide of sorts, to show them the ropes. This is how my mother raised me, and I'm very thankful to her for it.

For some reason, it's socially acceptable to admit to the world that your child is the center of your universe and everything you do is for your child. The mombies compete with each other to show that they are more obsessed with their children than the other mombies...scrapbooking every detail of their lives, cartoon families on the back of the minivan, facebook profile pictures of their children. Shouldn't we be proud to have our own identity? How is being obsessed with another person not unhealthy?

I tell my kids that I love them constantly. They know they (along with my husband) are my favorite people on earth, but I don't feel the need to tell everyone else how much I love my kids.

Ladies of 2X, what are your views on circumcision? Would you get your son circumcised? by srtpg2in TwoXChromosomes

[–]JeanHarlow 17 points18 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I have three sons. All are intact.

I'm not super passionate about the subject. If they are intact and want to be circumcized later on for some reason, they can do it. The opposite, not so much.

The whole "the son should match Daddy!" argument creeps me out. How many guys are sitting around naked with their dads? My husband is circumcized and has no idea whether or not his dad is or is not (and he's probably not since he's from a country where it's not common.)

There are a lot of creepy moms out there. You have to be pretty selective to spot the cool ones.

For me, a big hint is their style. I know, we're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but when I see a mom who has completely given up any sense of personal style and is completely decked out in frumpalicious mom-gear, I just have to assume she is a mombie. But when I see a woman who takes some care about her appearance, it's a little hint that her entire world, conversation and thought processes don't center around her little darling.
