I wish I could summon some set of words to explain to you what an asshole you are, but if mere words could explain such a thing, you wouldn't have found it funny in the first place.

what weird things do you do while drunk? I email myself info about where I am and who I'm with, in case I'm killed. by MBAfailin AskReddit

[–]IgnatiousReilly 6 points7 points ago

All sorts of things. Greek and Latin textbooks (obviously, drunk me overestimates sober me's dedication to classics), a sjambock, a bullwhip several weeks later, a gaming mouse and a case of batteries, a region free DVD player along with a German release of 'Dune', plaster of Paris, cigars, a typewriter...

This was over a number of years and there's a lot more, but I think that's a pretty good representative sample.

If it wasn't from that series of eight I'm sure you could find the exact one on eBay.

Have you considered replacing them? I'm sure it wouldn't be quite the same, but it might make you feel a little better.

I don't drink the way I used to, but every now and then I used to order random things from Amazon while drunk. I'd have no memory of doing it, so when the packages arrived, it would be like surprise presents to myself... I kind of miss that.

Judy Chu, who is currently running for the House for my district and a co-sponsor of SOPA, is visiting my government class. What questions should I ask her? by TopHatAndMonocleManin AskReddit

[–]IgnatiousReilly 6 points7 points ago

It's a good idea and you should try it. If she doesn't have a generic SOPA response (she likely does, but might not be able to recall the details under these circumstances), she'll be really vague and change the subject as though she's given an actual answer.

Unfortunately, in the case of the 'hostile' questioning suggested, the teachers and/or administrators will likely stop it. This visit is prestigious for the school and anything that might discourage future visits by her or other politicians will be hugely discouraged.

I'd love to see some genuinely aggressive questioning by high school students, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Good luck.

Edit: I'm not doubting your class. It's just something you'd need to secretly coordinate for at least a couple of days.

It wouldn't ruin your life?

Think about everything you've done and every relationship that you've formed and everything that you've learned in the last ten years. Imagine erasing that.

Add to that erasure ten years of fury and a life completely interrupted. All hopes, goals, and plans destroyed. You don't tend to be the same person from decade to decade.

It's better than the death penalty, if only because of its apparent impermanence, but I'd prefer not to endure it.

A detention of mine from middle school... by smashein funny

[–]IgnatiousReilly 0 points1 point ago

I wish I'd kept my favorite from the fourth grade. I deliberately and specifically disobeyed the teacher's instruction not to 'bounce off the walls' and was written up by the after-recess bathroom monitor. I'm pretty sure my audible 'boing boings' as I bounced around were noted in the write up.

My parents keep saying Obama failed in his promises to fix the economy, but they cannot name anything specific that he did that was a failure. Can Reddit help? What specific economic promises the Obama fail to keep or what specific economic policies of Obama were a failure? by Not_Me_But_A_Friendin explainlikeimfive

[–]IgnatiousReilly -1 points0 points ago

How about not arguing politics with your parents? There's just so much other shit going on between you and the people that raised you that it's usually going to be a waste of time to argue politics. Most likely, no arguments or facts will change anything, and you're going to make yourself (and them) miserable trying.

Since you're asking, I assume you still live with them. That's really hard, because even if they aren't arguing about it with you, they'll likely be talking to each other about it while you're around. If you're in this situation and kind of understand my point in the last paragraph, respond to this, as I'd love to offer some suggestions. I'm 35 and still have to deal with this sort of thing from time to time.

I am not a religious person but don't you think that you shouldn't be subscribed to r/atheism automatically like you are not subscribed to r/christianity or r/islam or r/judaism? by dbalciin AskReddit

The original, default subreddits were what they were because they reflected the community at the time. They also showed new users the sort of community they were joining. In general, that meant leftist with a Libertarian slant, geeky, and atheist. If you don't like that, get off my lawn.

Edit: Unsubscribe from it, of course. It sucks.

An elderly scam artist in action. Using jargon, he's trying to make people believe he can make gold in microwave ovens. by Triviaandwordplayin skeptic

I'm not sure what temperatures are possible, but here's a video of a guy smelting Iron Ore in a Microwave.

Everything else you said seems accurate, though. I agree that the old man is a con artist.

It's hard to overstate how dangerous this vehicle likely is. Imagine dipping the nose and digging in at 60 mph.

As absurd as that sounds, it might actually work on the History Channel. I can't imagine a scenario where I'd actually watch the show, but there's a lot of room drama. On construction sites, the people who clean those things are pariahs.

Look how much Mitchum deodorant is trying to scam. I bought a couple new and they're all less than half full. by lucubratiousin Frugal

Because they discontinued the smaller container and stopped filling the larger container up, but kept the price the same. One day it was $5.99 for five ounces in a five ounce container and the next day it was $5.99 for 2.5 ounces in a five ounce container.

It's not exactly a 'scam', but it's not entirely honest.

[–]IgnatiousReilly 3 points4 points ago

While r/circlejerk hasn't been amusing or relevant for a long while, it was always supposed to be a parody of Reddit at its worst (or, possibly at its stupidest). It may be long past its heyday, but lets not lump it in with r/politics.

I don't care about about their education, or their sexual discussion, or their money, or their lack of it. I just know that I wouldn't associate with the person described in the story and I think substantially less of anyone who finds it funny.

I don't normally think of myself as in any way prudish. I can think of a hundred more offensive things I've seen and heard and have actually laughed at. This story simply wreaks of the worst sort of trailer trash. I want nothing to do with the people described in it, or the people who like it.

Class distinction in America is a strange thing.
