There's a big difference between a master and a grandmaster.

The steady money to be made in chess is in teaching or in tournaments. At any tournament with significant money, the GMs and higher-level masters crowd out the lower masters.

Yep. A lot of chess coaches will forbid blitz playing, because it encourages students to develop quick heuristics rather than true analytic ability. It also may develop their tactical abilities to an extent, but at the expense of their positional prowess.

(In reality, Pandolfini is not like he's portrayed in the movie - he's actually very relaxed, which makes him popular with younger students).

I would not call a Toyota Camry a high-end car, even though it's at the top of my price range.
