Stop apologizing. That was fucking brilliant. No, of course it wasn't perfect, but I'd bet you could develop a stage show with your skill. I'm from New Jersey. You had me grinning from ear to ear. You nailed it.

Can A Restaurant Meal Be So Bad You Shouldn't Pay The Bill? - The Consumerist by rowninin news

[–]HomerWells 0 points1 point ago

I had some roasted chicken recently at a restaurant. My wife had a burger. My chicken was way undercooked. The bones were still red. I didn't want to wait for them to make me another while my wife ate her burger, and I certainly wasn't going to eat the chicken, but while waiting for the manager, I ate some veggies.

I showed him the still red chicken meat and told him we didn't want to pay for a ruined meal. He agreed and we left without paying for anything. That seemed fair to me. The cook screwed up. I could have ranted out loud, but I didn't. We left a normal tip for the waitress as none of it was her fault and she did her job and was very apologetic.

[–]HomerWells 1 point2 points ago

That's so great. My youngest took cello lessons in middle school. Developed strong fast fingers and then a love for Pink Floyd. Now he plays an accoustic, a Les Paul, a Strat and bass.

Regardless of how it sounds, or anything else, I love the way it looks. It's just beautiful. My first thought was... Holy Crap! George Nakashima made a guitar? Congratulations. It's a beauty.

My ex-girlfriend passed away - today would have been her birthday by Capt_Carrotin self

[–]HomerWells 1 point2 points ago

I am sorry for your loss, but try not to let yourself become burdened with false guilt. It's not your fault. You were not the right person for her. You later found your love and you married. You did what was right for you, which is what we all we must do, and you are not responsible for what she did.

I apologize if you did not recognize my weak attempt at satire. I totally approve of the post. I totally agree with President Obama and his views on Gay marriage. Attempted to sound facetious. Failed.

Any advice for rolling metallic paint? by ScrocksAlotin DIY

[–]HomerWells 3 points4 points ago

Metallic paint isn't that hard to do, but it does take a bit of patience. Here are some rules...

Don't cut in the entire room. Start with one wall and complete it before going to the next. Use only up and down roller motions, not side to side. You are right about keeping the paint well mixed. It's helpful to use a paint paddle in a drill to mix it all up from the bottom of the can to keep it uniform. If you have a helper, the whole process will go more easily if one person mixes and pours as the other rolls. Use tray liners. It's hard to clean up metallic paint from your tray. Get a couple of extra roller covers.

Allow your base coat a full day to dry before applying your top coat. It is actually a good idea to lightly back roll the entire wall in full top to bottom rolls after the whole wall is done, but do it without adding more paint. Lightly, without pressure, so you don't smudge the metal, overlapping to smooth it all out. All you are doing here is evening out the job, not second coating it.

Before committing yourself to an entire room, and risk of messing it up, try practicing on a spare piece of sheet-rock so you get the feel of it. You can even get one of those four inch rollers, which is nice to have around for hard to paint places like behind toilets and so forth anyway, and use that to practice. I actually used a spare closet wall to practice faux finish technique, then just primed it white the next time I had an open can in use. Seriously, one practice trial is a good idea.

DO NOT TRY TO CONFUSE ME WITH THE FACTS! IF GOD WANTED ME TO USE MY BRAIN TO THINK HE WOULD HAVE GIVEN ME ONE.

As I read the list, all I could do was shake my head and wonder what the hell is it with people. Then I remember. Stupidity. Stupidity is what the hell it is with people. Hatred and prejudice know no bounds.

Frugal... help please. There has to be a better way. by LucidOneironautin Frugal

[–]HomerWells 0 points1 point ago

Costco does it by never marking up any product at all over 15% over cost. It's the way they keep millions of loyal customers.

So we know that many other vendors, whether selling flowers or light bulbs, are killing you on markup.

Looked like acid? What does acid look like? You'd better get your ass to a doctor. Don't ask for a diagnosis on the internet. Go. Call. Go.

My dad (50yo) has degenerative disk disease, and I'm also scared for his heart. by nfntyin Health

[–]HomerWells 0 points1 point ago

I know nothing about disks, so I'll leave that to someone else.

I'm 59. Three years ago I had a massive heart attack. And I swear to God I am very very lucky to be alive. Your father is at very high risk. I was a smoker too for many years. You HAVE to get him to a good doctor and a cardiologist as soon as possible. Heart attacks often appear to be something else. A stiff neck, headaches, chest tightness, trouble breathing, perspiring, shoulder or arm soreness, even nausea. You HAVE to get him to a doctor. Beg him, scream at him, cry, plead, threaten, get other family members involved. ANYTHING. But get him to a doctor. He may have already had an attack.

Listen to me! The biggest killer is DENIAL. "It can't be a heart attack. It's just something I ate. It will go away. I just need to slow down a bit. I'm sure it will pass. I lifted something too heavy and pulled a muscle. I'll be okay in a few minutes." WRONG! This is what makes people die. And it is not too late, but you have to get on him immediately. I know he thinks he's too young and will be okay, but don't take the chance.

Make it your mission in life to get him to the doctor. This is more important than anything else you have to do. YOU can call his doctor and describe the symptoms to him/her, because your father might not tell them everything. It's all up to him, but you can push him with everything you've got. Do it.
