Reddit's Season in Review by Shuhnaynayin soccer

Aston Villa

  • Overall Grade (A - F): E- (saved from an F solely by the fact we weren't relegated

  • Best Player: Stephen Ireland got fans player of the year, so I'm tempted to agree and go with him, but for me it's Shay Given. Some of his ridiculous saves (especially away at West Brom) kept us in a lot of games, and may have kept us in the league.

  • Worst Player: Definitely Stephen Warnock. Was the cause of so many goals, and made countless mistakes, such as his hilarious own goal

  • Most Improved Player: Probably Stephen Ireland. He seemed devoid of confidence last season, and is finally starting to show that he has a decent player in him - we should aim to build the team around him next season.

  • Most Promising Youngster: Chris Herd without a shadow of a doubt (although Weimann comes close) He tackles hard, is an absolute engine, can pick out a good pass, and has a decent shot. He could become a great Premier League holding midfielder.

  • Best Moment of the Season: 3-1 away at Chelsea. We had all started to lose hope in the team, then we turned up at Stamford Bridge on New Years Eve, and played Chelsea off the park.

  • Worst Moment of the Season: Captain Stiliyan Petrov is diagnosed with acute leukaemia. Some things are more important than football.

  • Ideal Signings This Summer: Two new full-backs, a holding midfielder, another winger, a big target man, a creative midfielder, and at least one centre-half. Too much to ask?

  • Player You Cannot Afford to Lose: Darren Bent. He's missed a lot of this season through injury, but we all know what he can do when he's fit. I'm very worried that Liverpool are gonna come sniffing.

I genuinely feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

This was the most incredible moment I've witnessed in Premier League - Congratulations Manchester City by xVertig0in soccer

My friend bet something like £600 at the start of the season that Man United were going to win the league, which saw a return of about £2,000.

Those last 2 minutes must've damn near killed the guy.

I love how the "same old barca, always cheating" song had an impeccable cockney accent to it.

Two games in a row Ashley Young has dived to give his team the lead.

This quote from the guardian is relevant:

"Since a penalty is awarded for a foul committed in the penalty area, then surely to receive a penalty a player has to be fouled," begins Andrew Mullinder. "When did 'contact' constitute a foul in and of itself? Young was touched, and dived. But commentators and journalists justified it by saying there was 'contact'. There was, but so? Are there now separate 'penalty rules' that bear no relation to the normal rules of fouls? A cynic might say that it's something to do with playing at Old Trafford, but since I'm not a cynic I shall leave that unsaid."

I was trying to get the words myself, but this sums it up for me.

Today Young was offside and dived, which got Man United a penalty and a wrongly deserved red card for Shaun Derry. Shut your damn mouth.

We've really performed above my expectations in the last two games against Chelsea and now today. McLeish seems to be becoming more tactically aware and has shown it in both games with god subs such as Albrighton coming on last weekend and Gardner for Heskey today.

A promising result.

Banner Request: Stiliyan Petrov by Chipsticksin soccer

[–]Chipsticks[S] 3 points4 points ago

I know that Fabrice Muamba is (deservedly) getting all of the attention right now, but Stan getting Leukemia has hit me and all my fellow villa fans hard. If he could be the banner, just for the day, I think it'd be a lovely show of support.

I know exactly how you feel, but in my experience most of these types of shows are like that, I think I just enjoy having decent coverage of live football and listening to debates about topics I'm interested in, but I do agree they do talk a lot of rubbish.
