Most people just ignore it. Reddit is not a place where you get to pick and choose what other people view and find acceptable. It's a place where YOU get to pick and chose what YOU find acceptable. That's one of the reasons so many people like it.

More likely for assuming /r/kkk doesn't exist even though it's been around for ages. Your whole argument was predicated on a fallacy. Reddit is not what you think it is apparently.

Think of it more like you're rental unit that you have an agent leasing out for you. YOU personally might care, but you're not living with or having to deal with any of the tenants. All you care about is that they are paying their rent.

That's a more analogous situation. The admins are landlords, anyone can move in. As long as you don't break the washing machine they don't give a fuck what you do in your house.

What about /r/picsofdeadkids or /r/gore? Those are subs that have vids of actual people actually dying. It doesn't get much more offensive. Admins have said they aren't going to get involved. These posts just turn in to a circle jerk. It's annoying. If you don't like it don't go there.

Reddit is NOT a homogeneous community. I think that's the thing people are slow to grasp. There are a TON of extremely offensive subs, and any sub you like and find totally fine some minority of the users ALSO think is offensive.

Also /r/whitepower totally exists and it's been around for ages.

It's tragic and it happens every day. I think that's the point (well for some, others I'm sure get something else out of it). Check out /r/morbidreality sometime.

The admins have already stated that they aren't going to interfere with individual subs unless actual criminal activity is going on. Posting CP is criminal and was a liability for Reddit, so they shut down jailbait and associated reddits. Videos of people getting beaten, pics of dead kids and snuff films aren't going to expose reddit to any liability so the admins aren't going to do anything. It's their long held and commonly stated position so most of us feel that this is feeding the trolls, instead of dealing with a real problem by offering a real solution. It's not a mens rights issue, it's a "they know and they don't care so shut up" issue.

The admins don't get involved in the individual subs unles they absolutely have to. There is a hands off approach here and that's what most people like. It's community driven, and as detestable as it is, there is a community that wants /r/beatingwomen. If you don't like it, don't go there. Also don't go to /r/whitepower or /r/deadbabies or /r/spacedicks or /r/gore. There are lots of offensive subs and lots of offensive material on the internet. You can't censor it all.

"The Art Of War" more or less applies to any situation where people are competing. If you haven't read it, I do highly recommend it. It's not about battlefield strategies and how to move troops so much is its about how to get inside your opponents head an play your strengths against their weaknesses.

How are redditors countering varus? by ThisisVinnyCin leagueoflegends

I bet Kog would be a decent Varus counter. I don't play him often so I didn't even think about it, but he can actually match Varus for range, slow him to set up the hard CC from your (hopefully) offensive support, and is deadly. Seems like the most important thing though is to have a strong support with a hard CC. Of course exhaust is always an option and something to be considered.

Early pressure is key. A good Blitz will absolutely ruin a Varus if he's not playing super smart. Blitz is one of those champions that can zone simply be being in lane and hanging out in the brush. I also feel like Graves is one of the few carries that can afford to trade with Varus, but if he has some sustain support and you don't then it won't be worth it unless he makes a mistake and you can burst him down.

Why do we split up the LoL sub in to LoL meta, summoners school and lol suggestions? At this point either the smaller subs are fairly unpopular, or this sub is largely obsolete. I'm not complaining, I am just confused.

I am guessing he will either get a range nerf on his AA or a move speed nerf next patch. Varus is not exactly overpowered, but he is hard to compete with. You really need to pick a support that can counter him, or a carry that can afford to trade (Graves if played right).

You need someone in lane who can hard CC him, move him, or harass him. Varus lanes have been hit or miss for me (usually playing graves). Some of them are really good and potent with that skill shot, others are not. I would say Alistar or Blitz are almost hard counters to him. At the very least they force him to play more passively. On the other hand a strong ganker like Skarner (post 6) or Nautilus coming from the jungle can really ruin his day, provided you are freezing your lane close to your tower. His CS WILL cause the lane to push, and if you are good at freezing you can make him vulnerable to jungle ganks.

Vayne is probably the BEST carry for dodging his Q, as her Tumble is an amazing ability to counter fast-moving skillshots.

Graves E is really good for dodging skill shots as well. Other than that you're spot on in your assessment as far as I can see.

Same with Lee Sin and Blitz. Pretty much anyone with a skill shot, or a more complicated mechanic than "Chain your moves". I don't care if someone is in a normal and they say "first time" or whatever then have a bad game. People need to learn their champs. No excuse for doing such things in ranked though.

[Question] When did our community go from friendly, to worse than HoN? by Stj1mmyin leagueoflegends

[–]AllTheKingsHorses 4 points5 points ago

It's a mix. I wouldn't say our community is terrible, but if your friend is just starting out I would recommend muting all chat, and ignoring team mates who start trolling you at the first sign of contempt. If they aren't helping they are hurting. Letting people know you (or he) is super new right off the bat often helps too. If they know you're humble about where you're at in the game, and open to suggestions then often the flaming turns in to helpful advice instead of "uninstall and kill yourself".

Also keep in mind, the lower the ELO, the higher the concentration of dickholes. I don't know why that is, but if your friend can get the hang of the game, and work himself in to a comfortable 800-1k ELO range then his experience will improve dramatically.

Also if you are duo queuing consider picking up a more traditional support and getting him going with a carry. Fizz is a lot of fun, and a great champ, but he requires a strong understanding of the game and a fair amount of finesse to use properly. Someone like Ashe or Tristana might be better for him to start with.

If he is having fun otherwise then encourage him to ignore the trolls and keep playing. If he isn't then maybe it's time for a different game. No point in playing if you're just frustrating yourself. (I am not encouraging him to quit by any means)

One other thing, consider getting in custom games and laning against him while you guys are on TS or vent or whatever. That way you can punish him for making mistakes, but at the same time inform him of what that mistake was. If you start to get too far ahead just quit and start another game. This way he can learn what will get him in to trouble and what will work out for him in a friendly and comfortable environment.

I am not a great player by any means but I would happily play some custom games with you guys as a friendly adversary so your buddy can learn the ropes.

It just doesn't make sense to allow that kind of rune hoarding.

I imagine that these people are a pretty small minority overall. The change will force them to spend some IP on the champs they play regularly and that's not such a bad thing. The more I talk with people about this change the more it makes a lot of sense, and I'm starting to favor it.

Morgana is a champ that takes a lot of skill to play right. She's not super hard to figure out, but to be effective you really have to hit your skill shot consistently.

I have noticed more lane switching going on depending on the matchup. It's often advantageous to switch up the meta, just to catch your opponents off guard.
